How to Read and Understand Odds
Decimal, fractional and American — all three formats express the same information.
Example 1 — Same odds in three formats (team A to win, ৳200 stake)
Decimal: 2.50 means ৳2.50 back for every taka staked — so a ৳200 bet returns a total of ৳500 (৳300 profit + ৳200 stake). The same odds in fractional are 3/2, and in American format +150. If the bet loses, the ৳200 is gone.
Example 2 — Favourite's odds (team B to win, ৳200 stake)
The odds on a favourite are usually around 1.80. Decimal: 1.80 = fractional 4/5 = American −125. A negative American odds figure shows how much you need to stake to win ৳100 profit. A ৳200 bet returns a total of ৳360 (৳160 profit).
The lower the odds, the more likely the market considers that outcome to be. The decimal format is the simplest — just multiply the stake by the odds to get the total return.
